During the Battle of Britain in 1940, Eric Sanders, from a family of five children born in Pilton and who lives in the Feoffee Cottages, was stationed at RAF Detling in Kent, near Maidenhead. He'd been evacuated from France shortly after the main British army was rescued at Dunkirk in Northern France. Here he remembers an air raid on RAF Detling, the death of their commanding officer, and a German pilot's crash landing.
