This is the Candidate’s Card for a member of the Girls’ Friendly Society (GFS). The Girls Friendly Society in England and Wales was established in 1875, within the Anglican Church, and is still a national and international movement, helping young women to help themselves by giving them opportunities to develop their potential, pursue aspirations, grow in confidence and to learn to value themselves and others equally.
The candidate here is Jane ‘Jenny’ Hobbs, mother of the late ‘Jennie’ Hobbs of Pilton, who enrolled in the GFS in November 1907. At the time she lived in St Margaret’s Terrace, Pilton.
Thanks to Mary Passmore, Jennie’s cousin, for passing this to The Pilton Story.
