Dennis Norman Awarded Queen Scout Badge in 1955

Dennis Norman Awarded Queen Scout Badge in 1955 /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=858
Description:

Dennis Norman became a scout when the 12th North Devon Troop was formed in about 1948/49 and they went to a Scout Jamboree at Belchamps, Hockley, Essex, in 1952. Years before joining the scouts he recalled having seen a scout of the 1st North Devon Troop (Barnstaple) who had obtained a King’s Scout badge and promised himself to do likewise.
Sadly King George VI died in 1952 and Queen Elizabeth II took his place. When he became a Senior Scout, Dennis was first leader of the Stag Patrol and later of the Darwin Patrol. After a lot of hard work obtaining the necessary activity badges, he was awarded the Queen’s Scout Badge and Certificate which he considered to be an honour for both him and his troop. To his knowledge, no-one else in the troop achieved this.
He was examined for the badge by Scoutmaster Derek Knill and Area Commissioner, Stanley Trent, and awarded it in April 1955. Stanley Trent lived in a house opposite Pilton Park. His Queen’s Certificate was issued in April before he went into the Army on 1st May 1955.
