This aerial view of the village of Pilton was taken around 1933 by Arthur Dennis flying from Chivenor. Particular points of interest are:
1. the Broadgate House Tennis Court, which was reached by a footbridge over Under Minnow Road, and Broadgate House Bowling Green, where Priory Close is now.
2. the Northfield Sheepskin Drying Area where Northfield Park and Nursery End are now situated
3. Billy Lees Riding Stables - at the bottom of what is now Abbey Road.
4. Raleigh Mill on (Lower) Raleigh Road.
5. There are none of the 'modern' houses on Higher Raleigh Road and beyond Littabourne House and 1 - 4 Littabourne opposite.
6. There is no A39 (North Road - built 1938) across Pilton Lawn in front of Pilton House.
This link will take you to a map of the Broadgate Estate which was sold in 1918 and shows some of these features.
