Handsome Well-built Vessel from Chappell's Yard in Pilton in 1827

Handsome Well-built Vessel from Chappell's Yard in Pilton in 1827 /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=840
Description:

This advertisement for a Smack or Schooner under construction in Chappell's Yard in Pilton appeared in the North Devon Journal on many occasions between June and November 1827. When he died in 1820, Richard Thorne's yard in Pilton passed to his nephew John Chappell. It was presumably not built on commission but as a speculation by John Chappell. He kept the yard going until 1830 but it did not prosper and, unfortunately, John Chappell went bankrupt, bringing to an end shipbuilding in Pilton. We do not know the name of this vessel or her fate.
