Description:

These two brasses are the second oldest monuments St Mary's Church, Pilton, dedicated to Robert and Alexander Bret. The inscriptions appear to be:

Here lyeth Robert Bret Esquire which died on 22nd day of September in the year of our Lord God 1540.

Here lyeth Alexander Bret Esquire which died on 14th day of July in the year of our Lord God 1534.

The Bret or Brett family held the manor of Pillond, in the parish of Pilton, which was subsequently sold to Dr. Wolton, Bishop of Exeter, during the reign of Elizabeth I.
