The fire destroyed much of the interior and all but the sturdiest timbers of the house beside the main road out of Bradiford towards Ilfracombe. It was on July 18 1974. The building was also flooded along with neighbouring properties after which South West Water built flood prevention works to protect many of the lower-lying houses by the stream in Bradiford.
