John Brand Smith of Pilton in the Early 1950s

John Brand Smith of Pilton in the Early 1950s /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=556
Description:

This photograph is of John 'Jack' Brand Smith and his son Jack on one of the many occasions when he entertained the people of Pilton and beyond with his bagpipes, particularly at New Year. John Smith was a Scot who came to North Devon after the war, married Dorothy Kathleen Jewell of Braunton and lived in Reform Street (in a cottage where the Pilton Auction car park now is), on Yeo Vale Road and elsewhere in Barnstaple until the family left for Croydon in 1961. In addition to their son Jack, they had a daughter Margaret and another son Malcolm.

Thanks are particularly due to Malcolm, his wife Joan and their daughter Tracey, who discovered The Pilton Story on 9th June 2015 when they were visiting North Devon to research their family history.
