Opening of Barnstaple Fire Station in 1965

Opening of Barnstaple Fire Station in 1965 /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=427
Description:

The attached photograph shows Barnstaple Fire Station with its appliances out front in July 2012 with an inset of the newspaper report of the opening in 1965. The Fire Station was built on the site of the former North Devon Technical College.

The newspaper report states that "Barnstaple's new £65,000 fire station opened on Tuesday.......". Under the photo the caption is "Fireman G.R.Smith takes a call in the control room of Barnstaple"s new fire station". Fireman Smith was Gerald 'Gerry' Smith. The station apparently costs £66,500 to build.

Thanks to Peter Christie for posting this on Facebook and Valerie Fairbanks, Gerry's niece, for identifying him.
