This photograph, on the back of which was written 'Pilton School 1931', was brought to The Pilton Story in July 2016 by Pamela Phillips, the eldest daughter of Florence Amy Mary Barrow who was born in 1923 and died in 2008. She was known as Amy because she lived with her grandparents at 19 Warwick Terrace after her mother died in childbirth. They had another daughter called Florence, aunt to Amy.
Pamela identified one child in the photograph, a girl called Barbara to whom her mother often referred, as sixth from the left in the middle row, simply because she is the only one wearing glasses. Since we posted the photograph on the Facebook page, Sarah Joy has identified her mother Mona Parsley as fifth from the left on the second row. Unfortunately, Pamela has not been able to identify her own mother, Amy. Amy married Harold Davie of Vicarage Street, Barnstaple. Barbara married Jack Tucker.
If anyone is able to identify anyone else in this photograph we would love to hear from them. The Pilton Story does not have much material from the 1930s. Thanks to Pamela Phillips and, so far, Sarah Joy for their contributions to a fascinating photograph.
