An atmospheric portrait of the archway entrance to the Feoffee Cottages (almshouses) at the top of Pilton Street, sometime in the Victorian era. The archway was built in 1849/50 and paid for partly by the feoffees themselves and by a Reverend Bowdler in memory of his daughter. The arch had to be reinforced this (21st) century after it became unsafe to walkers below. The money was raised by Pilton residents, wellwishers and through public grants. Before it was built originally there were other cottages and a gate in that position. Thanks to the late Eric Sanders for the picture.
