Description:

Rain on the day meant that the Fairview VJ Day Street Party in August 1945 had to be held at the Queen Anne Building on the Strand, now the Barnstaple Heritage Centre.

People identified in the photograph by Peggy Thomas are her parents Elizabeth & Stan Williams, Joan Gaydon neé Williams, Doreen Kerswell neé Williams, Michael Williams, Enid Nott, Mary Passmore, Eliza & Bert Passmore, Annie Berry, Mrs Mathews, Mr Cooper, Marjorie Cox, Tony Oxenham, Billy Simms, Mrs Ruddle & Joan Ruddle.

Colin Barrow identified himself as the third child from the left in the front row and his brother David as the third child from left in the third row up next to Mickey Tucker. He also recognised John Elliot, Pete and John Lynch, Margaret Parminter, Myra Roy, Gordon West, Gwyn Pritchard, Ann Stephens and possibly Spike Williams, although not who they are.
