Following a long period of heavy rain, the River Yeo burst its banks at Raleigh on Saturday 22nd December 2012 and threatened the adjacent properties on Greenmeadow Drive, Claude Dix Close and Raleigh Meadow. The residents were evacuated as a precaution. Fortunately, the combination of high flows and high tide had not led to the river overwhelming the longstanding flood defences but it had washed away about 300m of the riverside path and some sections of the river bank. Good work by the Environment Agency had these restored with three months.
The photograph shows the river the next day when it had all but returned within its banks.
