Builders Hobbs and Smith worked out of premises at the bottom of Bradiford Hill, at the entrance to what is now Meadow Road. The right hand picture shows a carnival float outside the company's buildings. The firm was eventually taken over by Harris Builders (later Pearces).
These two pictures are of their carnival float, Willow Pattern, which won first prize in both Barnstaple and South Molton carnivals in 1957/8.
In the left hand picture Frederick Bartlett, son in law of Jack Hobbs, is driving, and on the float are l-r Dianne Smith, Jaci Bartlett (Jack Hobbs' granddaughter, now Hibbert), and behind her are Lynn Williams, then Deanne Williams and Stuart Bartlett. Lynn and Deanne are cousins to Jaci and Stuart.
The right hand picture shows l-r Jennifer West ( daughter of Rev and Mrs West), Dianne, Jaci, Lynne, Deanne and Stuart.
Thanks to Jaci and Albert Hibbert for lending us family photos which add so much to the Pilton and Bradiford archive.
