A new Community Forest School has been created by Pathfield Special School, Pilton, which caters for more than 120 children with special needs. It was completed in 2012. The Forest School is also open to other local young people, to give everyone the chance to enjoy learning outdoors, encouraging them to appreciate the natural world.
It includes a classroom area, a sensory area, a fire circle, safe enclosed areas, a birch and hazel coppice, hedgerow, and the show and tell area. Benches and lean-to upright seats provide an opportunity for pupils to use all their senses.
The photograph shows the entrance to the site from the new cycleway between Abbey Road and the A361 Braunton Road which opened in 2009.
