Pilton Arts Group came into being in late 1971, as a result of the closure of the Municipal School of Art in Barnstaple High Street. They bought the former Church of England School beside Pilton Church from the Diocese of Exeter with the help of a loan from Barnstaple Borough Council. For over forty years the Group has offered tutored classes, and a place where members may come and paint untutored, for all abilities or none, plus opportunities for occasional exhibitions.
