Pilton West and Shirwell Home Guard during World War II

Pilton West and Shirwell Home Guard during World War II /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=412
Description:

Back during World War II, about 70 years ago, these men served in Pilton West and Shirwell Home Guard. This photograph was published in the North Devon Gazette and Advertiser on 4th April 1996 in an appeal from David Rees of Newport, Barnstaple of a member of a group keen to recapture the 'Dad's Army' days. Mr Rees was compiling a history of the Home Guard units in and around Barnstaple so if anyone has a copy we would love to see it.

Thanks to Marion Abbott of Pilton for this cutting from the newspaper. Her father, Edwin Lyle Whale (Eddie), is in the middle of the second row.
