Children Clearing Smoky House Lane in Spring 1974

This photograph shows a group of children who helped clear Smoky (or Smokey) House Lane in the Spring of 1974. They were led by local naturalist Trevor Beer (third from left). For those who don't know, Smoky House Lane runs south and then east from Roborough Road near the North Devon District Hospital. It goes to, and beyond, Kingdon Gardens. It is known for its species-rich hedgerows.
We discovered in June 2020 that the young girl in the centre with long dark hair is Julie Wicks next to her brother Ian. Thanks for that Julie.
