A reunion in the Reform Inn brought back many memories for boyhood friends from Pilton, Bobby Furse, George Challacombe, John Norman and his cousin, Brian Norman. Among the reminiscences were long days cycling as far as Exmouth and back, (unbeknown to their parents), playing football for Pilton United against the Bluecoat School, and against Shirwell, from which they would try to freewheel by bike all the way home from Youlston Park.
Much of the activity centred on Mannings Pit, as the 'Gang of Four' told Richard Howe........
Names of Pilton United in the picture of 1954/55 taken at Holsworthy, Back row L-R Jack Chapman ( trainer) Bill Sanders, Mr May(supporter), Bobby Furse, Dennis Norman, Eddie Thorning, Bill Young, Michael Curtis, Peter Hudson (supporter and son of Charles Hudson ex headmaster of Bluecoat School); Front Row L-R John Norman, Gerald Roach, Carl Young, Bertie Pow, Peter Long, Mr Fred Powell ( supporter).
Thanks to John Norman for the great picture...
