Catalogue for Sale of Broadgate Estate, Pilton, in May 1918

Description:

On May 3rd 1918 the Broadgate Estate owned by Mrs Hibbert was sold by auction at the Imperial Hotel, Barnstaple. It was described as comprising 'A singularly-attractive COUNTRY MANSION, in Beautifully-timbered Grounds, including Two Conservatories, Lounge Hall, Four Reception Rooms, Twenty Bedrooms, and Gardener's Cottage; also TWO PICTURESQUE COTTAGE RESIDENCES, THREE OLD-FASHIONED DWELLING-HOUSES, TWO COTTAGES, and NINE ENCLOSURES OF RICH GRAZING LAND, with Farm Buildings, extending in all to 30 Acres'.

This document is the catalogue of the sale which details the 15 Lots:

Lot 1: Broadgate House with Pleasure Grounds & Gardens, Gardener's Cottage (now Fig Tree Cottage),The Stabling and Farm Buildings extending to an area of about 3 Acres.
Lot 2: Rich Meadow Land - which is land on the south side of Under Minnow Road.
Lot 3: The Pilton Bowling Green - in the area now occupied by Priory Close.
Lot 4: The Picturesque Old-Fashioned Cottage Residence - which is Pilton Cottage.
Lot 5: Well-built Freehold Cottage - which is No 3 Lake Cottages.
Lot 6: Well-built Freehold Cottage - which is No 4 Lake Cottages.
Lot 7: Well-built Pleasantly Situate Freehold Dwelling House - No 1 Bellairs (sic) called Wynards
Lot 8: Double-Fronted Creeper-clad Dwelling House - No 3 Bellairs (sic)
Lot 9: Picturesque old-Fashioned Country House - which is Fairfield and Fairmead, formerly Broadgate Villa
Lot 10: Meadow Land - behind Fairfield and Fairmead
Lot 11: Rich Grazing Land and Plantation - north of Bellaire
Lot 12: Two enclosures of Valuable Meadow Land
Lot 13: Valuable Enclosure of Grazing Land - behind Cross Park House
Lot 14: Pasture Land - on the south side of Bradiford Water
Lot 15: Pasture Land - on the north side of Bradiford Water.
