This is a very personal view of Pilton Glove Factory told by Jennie Hobbs who worked there from September 1939 until 1969 when the owners, Dent & Allcroft, closed it down. Jennie started as a Junior Clerk and moved on eventually to head the Export Department sending gloves all over the world. She finished in the wages and cashier department and had the unenviable task of obtaining redundancy payments for the staff as the factory gradually closed down.
The Pilton Glove Factory eventually became the Pilton Cabinet Works which, in 2014, is about to be re-developed as apartments.
Many thanks to Jennie Hobbs for her insight into the life of the Pilton Glove Factory. For more on the history of Pilton Glove Factory, follow this link: http://vimp.thepiltonstory.org/picture/Pilton-Glove-Factory-Staff-in-194...
