In 2013, the writer and wildlife artist Trevor Beer wrote his boyhood memories of life in Pilton where he was born in January 1937. He died in June 2017. These memoirs offer a fascinating insight into life in Pilton during and immediately after World War II with the arrival of electricity, school in Pilton Parish Rooms, the war, and the Americans who came to Bellaire, the shops in Pilton Street, the firing range where the North Devon Hospital now stands and the aircraft and the meteorite that crashed near Westaway.
