This advertisement for builders, undertakers and joiners Hobbs & Smith of 20 Bradiford is thought to date from around 1950 although the company was certainly in business into the 1960s. They made and repaired furniture and are reported as having built the Zephyr Estate off Derby Road. Brian Standen worked for Jack Hobbs and Fred Smith in the 1960s as their truck driver.

In the 1941 Kelly's Directory for Barnstaple there is a listing for Charles Hobbs, a carpenter, at 20 Bradiford. Follow this link to see that entry:
