This photograph, posted on Facebook by his daughter Sylvia Mullen (neé Pert), shows Frank Pert of Pilton Lawn receiving a fishing rod and gold pen on retirement from the North Devon Journal Herald in 1976. He had asked for the rod instead of a watch which he thought was more appropiate to his needs! However, he couldn't settle to retirement and went back a few days a week as a proofreader for three years. He died just before his 73rd birthday in about 1984.
