The View from Pilton House at Christmas in 1916

The View from Pilton House at Christmas in 1916 /media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=166
Description:

This photograph shows the surprising view from the grounds of Pilton House looking south across the valley of the River Yeo at Christmas 1916. At that time, Rotary Gardens do not exist - they were created after the 2nd World War - and there is no North Road (built in 1938 to improve the journey to Ilfracombe and Lynton and stop it going up the narrow streets of Pilton). The buildings in the centre right must be the houses on St George's Road (built before the 1st World War) and there is also development in the far distance, possibly on Derby Road.
