The wedding took place in Holy Trinity Church, Barnstaple on Tuesday 2nd June, between Sergeant Cyril Phillips Webber, R.A.F. elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Webber, of 18, Silver Street, Barnstaple, and Miss Florence Joan Chugg, eldest daughter of Mrs. Puncher and the then late Mr. W. Chugg, of 18, Carlyle Avenue, Yeo Vale, Barnstaple. The bride was given away by her step-father Mr Henry Puncher. The bride’s mother, Alice Puncher, was born Alice Mogridge, and was formerly Alice Chugg.
Keri Lambert, who posted this photograph on The Pilton Story Facebook page, recognised her Great Grandfather, Fred Mogridge of Mill Road (on the far right), and guessed that the lady immediately to the right of the bride is her sister, Doris Chugg. The woman next to Doris Chugg, could well be Mildred Puncher, the step-sister of the bride.
It was also reported in the North Devon Journal on 4th June 1942 that the bridegroom was very well known in North Devon as a cyclist, and was the secretary and treasurer of Barnstaple Cycling Club before joining the R.A.F. The Rev. J. C. Mitchell of Holy Trinity Church officiated.
The Pilton Story and Keri Lambert would love to know who any of the others present are.
