Blotter-Calendar Year Book 1924-25 for St Mary's Church, Pilton and St Mary Magdalene Church, Barnstaple

/media/flashcomm?action=mediaview&context=normal&id=170
Description:

Blotter-calendar year books appear to have been published by churches around England in the 1920s and 1930s particularly. In the centre of the 12 page document pink blotting paper was bound in. This was a long time before the invention of the ballpoint pen so ink was still used extensively.

This Year Book is a joint effort between St Mary's Church, Pilton and St Mary Magdalene's Church, Barnstaple. At the time the vicar of St Mary's Church, Pilton was William Henry Morris Bagley (1892-1927). At the front of the Year Book are details of the Pilton clergy (Rev William H M Bagley), assistant curate (Rev J Lewis Jones), churchwardens (Charles Pearce and W.T. Sanders), organist and choirmaster (G W Lee), sexton (A Warr), parish clerk (J Thomas) and members of the parochial church council. It also gives the Sunday services and the various Christian festivals through the Church's year October 1924 to September 1925. Toward the back of the book the same information is provided for St Mary Magdalene's Church whose vicar at the time was Rev R C W L Lamplugh.

There are advertisements for many Barnstaple and a few Pilton businesses including A & F Northcote at the Yeo Vale Garage, and S & H Allen, Builder & Contractor at 40 Pilton Street. Also given are postal rates and birthdays of the Royal Family. At the time King George V was on the throne. There is also a detailed description of some of the main features of Pilton Church - monuments, rood screen, font and cover, pulpit and stained glass windows.
